The ULTIMATE Hot Yoga Bag [GIVEAWAY] – CLOSED

I am So Feeling the Love

Thanks to all who participated in October's Yogavive Giveaway. Two winners have been selected and they are … Pat and Agata. I have notified the winners via email and they will be receiving their Yogavive Apple Chips Sample Pack very soon. Congrats!!

I really appreciate everyone's participation and as I promised I will be bringing a food donation to MANNA this week on your behalf.

November's Giveaway is a GOOD ONE.

Have you ever wished there was a more convenient (and attractive) way to travel to and from Hot Yoga class? Or am I the only one?

Most yoga mat bags don't have room for the extra hot yoga paraphernalia  – the towels, water bottles, change of clothes, etc.  It is for this reason that I usually have several bags with me when I go to class. I have one for my mat, one for my clothes and and an extra plastic bag for my used, sweaty yoga clothes. Then there's my purse and if it is cold out, my coat as well.

Introducing the ULTIMATE Hot Yoga Bag

Jessica over at Maine Girl Creations has designed a beautiful and functional bag for hot yogis everywhere. Check it out!

Product Description

"As my friend Terry calls it- The ULTIMATE Hot Yoga Bag. Do you practice Yoga in a heated room, maybe at a Bikram Studio or one of the many other fabulous heated studios out there? If the answer is YES, you need this bag.

The main fabric is Amy Butler Wall Flower accented with Amy Butler Lotus Full Moon Dot and a water proof/resistant PUL fabric in Pale Yellow. The finished size is 15 1/2"W x 10"L , 6 1/2"W x 10"L, the straps are 20"L perfect to wear on your shoulder, carry in your hand or drape over your arm! The Bottom of the bag is very sturdy lined with Peltex.

On the outside you will find a place to put your mat, how fabulous is that! A side pocket in the contrasting accent fabric for your phone and your keys. The inside of this bag is generously sized and lined with PUL fabric to put your sweat soaked towels and clothing in. The inside pocket is lined with the fabulous accent fabric, it is there to protect your dry goods from the wet, this pocket is generously sized as well."

Isn't it awesome?

Yummy Yogavive Chips Review and Giveaway CLOSED

Healthy snacking just got yoga-fied!

One of my favorite things about fall is, well, the food! So, how appropriate that this month’s giveaway is a tasty one.

With pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice cookies and muffins making the rounds at offices and potlucks, it is easy to over-indulge. I find self discipline (brahmacharya) is important this time of year. I also like to find ways to set myself up to succeed in my seasonal eating habits. For example, I do not go food shopping when I’m hungry. I bring snacks and a bottle of water with me when I am out and about. I even go so far as to light a pumpkin spice candle to simulate yummy baking smells in my house.

yogavive popped apple chips

A New Take on Snack Foods

These Yogavive Organic Popped Apple Chips are a perfect part of a healthy lifestyle. Not only do I love their delicious flavor and satisfying crunch, I also love that the ingredient list is as simple as can be (call me crazy, but I am kind of a dork for that feature in my food). And here are some more things to love about Yogavive products:

  • No Added Sugar
  • No Preservatives
  • Gluten Free
  • USDA Certified Organic
  • AVA Certified Vegan

They Come is 5 Scrumptious Flavors

  • Original
  • Cinnamon
  • Caramel
  • Strawberry
  • Peach

Yogavive uses a two part drying process where the apples are first oven baked and then popped making them light and crispy and full of flavor. These popped apple chips are made from the highest quality USDA certified organic Fuji apples and come in two different size options. The 0.35 Ounce packages contain 1 whole apple while the 1.7 Ounce contains 5.

My favorite flavors are the Strawberry and the Original. My husband and my daughter both love the Peach. My son, well, he loves them all. Seriously, my kids can’t get enough of these apple chips and since I can’t find them in the local stores, I’ve already ordered more on Amazon.

Click here to locate a Yogavive retailer near you or head on over to Amazon.com to start shopping right away.

And Now for the FUN Part

Two lucky Lindsay’s Hot Spot readers will receive a generous sampling of Yogavive Apple Chips in all 5 flavors and both sizes.

Aurorae Yoga Review and Giveaway CLOSED

My blog is 1 year old this month!

Yep, my baby is growing up (sniff). When I think back to a year ago and to how new all of this was to me, well, I am mostly blown away at how far I have come. I have learned A LOT about myself, my unique gifts, my voice as a writer and teacher as well as the supportive nature of social networking. My little site here has grown as well, from an incoherent collection of my musings and yoga posture tips to a clear vision, a creative outlet and a community resource for yogis and friends from all over the world.

Blogging has also connected me with many amazing individuals, teachers, fellow bloggers and some pretty rockin' yoga inspired companies. Most recently, I have had the good fortune of connecting with one of these awesome organizations, Aurorae Yoga.

aurorae yoga logo

Haven't heard of them?

Aurorae Yoga makes yoga practice aids including beautiful and eco-friendly yoga mats, mat bags, and a variety of yoga accessories. The company was founded by Dennis Ingui, a cancer survivor who came to yoga to help cultivate his physical body and a sense of inner peace for his mind. Like many people (myself included), Ingui found yoga practice to be so much more than even those two things. Aurorae Yoga resulted from a desire to support regular, everyday people in their yoga practice. I love this quote from their website, "It's Your Yoga. So don't be intimidated or uncomfortable. Relax, Enjoy and Namaste." Good stuff.

My Experience

First of all, I have to say that all of my interactions with the folks at Aurorae Yoga have been amazing. Every conversation I have had has been friendly and accommodating. Their communication is clear and they respond to emails promptly. I really appreciate that integrity.

The Products

I received the Ultra Thick Yoga Mat and the Slip Free Rosin Bag to test and review here on my blog.

aurorae products yoga matsThe Aurorae Yoga Mat is awesome and quite an upgrade from what I am used to. I was surprised to notice that the 1/4" thickness really makes a huge difference in my practice. This is especially evident in poses like Camel, Low Lunge and any pose where the knees are bearing weight. I have also noticed that I am more comfortable when laying on my stomach in Bow Pose and Full Locust Pose and Jump Backs to Chaturanga don't kill my toes. Basically, I am able to focus more on the poses because I feel really supported by the mat. That is a nice feeling.

I love the focal point icon at the front of the mat  (very helpful in Toe Stand!). Also, the colors are great. My mat color is Violet and it totally suits me. It is soothing on the eyes and inspires a sense of calm focus and clarity that is wonderful during a challenging vinyasa practice. All of the Aurorae Yoga Mat colors have an intentional focus, for example green facilitates renewal and intellect while pink is energetic and healing. Cool, huh?

Did I mention that the pricing on the Aurorae Yoga Mats is extremely affordable? Just another bonus.

aurorae yoga products slip freeThe Slip Free Rosin Bag is a new concept for me but after using it, it seems like a no-brainer. I don't know why I haven't heard of this sort of product being used for yoga practice before. It is absolutely perfect for a hot, sweaty vinyasa class when your hands have trouble staying put (in Downward Facing Dog for example). Towels also work for this purpose, of course, but this little bag sitting at the front of my mat has come in so very handy lately. Thanks Aurorae Yoga!

Yoga Games for the Nerdily Inclined

Looking for some yoga-tainment?

My daughter likes to play online dress-up games. It's kind of a new take on the old paper dolls I suppose. Her favorite site is GirlsgoGames.com and while some of the "games"  make my stomach turn (seriously? "weather girl" make up?), I went searching for happened to find these few that appeal to my nerdy yogini nature.

Also, a big thanks and congrats goes out to the YogaVibes.com Giveaway winners, ashdyogi, Y is for Yogini and Megan. I will be emailing your free YogaVibes class code to you.

Of course, thank you as well to everyone who participated and big hugs of gratitude to YogaVibes for facilitating the event. Woohoo!

I have another giveaway which I will be announcing very soon, too!

Lots of Love,

Lindsay

Hot Yoga Stuff: Ultima Replenisher Review

Hot Yogis and Electrolyte Replacement Drinks go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly

I recently received a sampler of Ultima Replensher's Balanced Electrolyte Drink mix from a giveaway on the My Yoga Life Blog (Woohoo! Thanks Callah!). I have to say, I am impressed.

ultima replenisher

I was always suspicious of other electrolyte drinks and their long lists of ingredients I couldn't pronounce (not to mention the inordinate amount of refined sugar!). Still, knowing that my body needed to replace what I sweat out in just one hot yoga class, I would take them anyway figuring I was choosing the lesser of the two downers (you know, the crappy way I feel when I am depleted vs. the sugar and junk I can't pronounce).

I have done some research and I've even found recipes for making my own all natural electrolyte replacement drink. It is really surprising that I hadn't heard of Ultima before now. Thanks Callah and Ultima for hosting such a cool and useful blog giveaway (just another reason I love blogging!).

Ultima is the only 100% Natural, Sugar Free, Dye Free, Gluten Free, Non-GMO electrolyte drink on the market. Pretty cool, huh?

I tried the following flavors (all of which I could pronounce every ingredient):

  • Grape
  • Wild Rasberry
  • Orange
  • Lemonade

The Wild Rasberry is definitely my favorite, with the Orange coming in a close second. The Lemonade is my least favorite. It's not terrible, just a little bland compared to the others. As for the Grape, well, I am just not a grape-flavored-stuff kind of person.

The individual packets are great. I keep one in my yoga bag for after class. I have also been using these drinks after I go for a run (a new adventure for me!). I notice when I do, I don't have a dip in my energy level later that day. In short, I am loving it – such a simple way to take care of my self and continue to live my active yogi life!

Not Just for Hot Yogis

Any althete (or anyone really) looking for an all natural, sugar free electrolyte drink will love Ultima Replenisher. Heck, my kids really enjoy it so that speaks to the tastiness, right?

Still Have Questions?

You can read Ultima's FAQ. Also, feel free to post questions for me about my experience with Ultima Replenisher in the comments below.

Buy It

You can buy directly from Ultima on their website or find out where there's a store near you carrying Ultima products. You can also connect with Ultima Replenisher on Facebook.

By the way, through September 2010 Ultima is offering a coupon for yogis! Get $7 off an order made on their website by using code yogayoga. Thanks Ultima!

Bloggy Love

Please stop by Callah's blog My Yoga Life and say hi! She is super sweet and share lots of useful yoga and running info over there. You might like this related post on The Importance of Hydration.

As always, thanks for reading! Please check back in as I have some pretty cool stuff (hint: giveaways!) planned for the not so distant future.

Yoga Inspired Jewelry by Bhati Beads

I’m not much of a jewelry person.

Heck, my wedding band is a tattoo. However, I find these lovely silk wraps from Bhati Beads to be unique and beautiful and I find myself wearing them despite my apparent aversion to accessories. Here’s the story of how I found out about Bhati Beads …

bhati beads silk wrapsAren’t they pretty?

There I was cruising the blogosphere for yoga giveaways to post for you here on my Hot Spot and I came across a Bhati Beads giveaway on Miranda’s Blog, Everything Sounds Better in French (her tag line is “Live Scrumptiosly” and I totally agree). So, not expecting much, I casually clicked and explored the Bhati Beads website and found myself lingering a little longer than I anticipated. The designs for both men and women are creative, hand-made and inspired by a love of yoga.

I headed back over to the Everything Sounds Better in French blog, again not expecting much, and left a comment and my entry into the Bhati Beads giveaway.

Guess what happened next? That’s right. I WON!!

I soon received my new Bhati Beads Silk Wrap in the mail.

bhati beads paprika

The color I chose is called Paprika. It’s rich and earthy and I love it. The beads are a brass hardware style “bead.” There are nine beads total.

I have used the bracelet/wrap for mantra practice. So, wearing the bracelet serves as a reminder to me to live mindfully and to make time for daily meditation and yoga practice.

Thanks Miranda at Everything Sounds Better in French and Margaret Maggard the artist behind Bhati Beads for this wonderful gift.

Visit the Bhati Beads site and explore a little. The Prayer Boxes are especially lovely. And also, please stop by Miranda’s blog. I am sure you will love it. She’s funny and sweet and incredibly chic.

While you’re at it, check out my current review and giveaway for YogaVibes.com Online Yoga Classes and Videos.

I’ve got another awesome Lindsay’s Hot Spot giveaway coming soon so stay tuned!

Click the Follow Me button on the right for ways to stay in the loop. Thanks!

Lots of Love,

Lindsay

YogaVibes.com Review and Giveaway CLOSED

I would like to introduce (or perhaps reacquaint) you with a really great website, YogaVibes.com.

I have a confession to make. I do not make it to yoga class every week. I’m not counting the classes that I teach. I am talking about a yoga class for me, where I get to be the student, where someone tells me what to do for an hour and a half!

I do practice at home, though, and I really do love my home practice. I find the intuitive nature of guiding myself through an asana sequence that my body asks of me to be so much fun and creative and quite special. But honestly, it isn’t always enough. It is sometimes difficult for me to stay motivated and I tend to fall into the trap of complacency in my practice. In other words, I don’t challenge myself and I get bored.

There’s just something about the energy of going to a yoga class

But how am I to get to class with 2 young children,  a teaching schedule, a working/schooling husband and one car between us? It’s not easy that’s for sure (YogaVibes to the rescue!).

yogavibes.comWhat I love most about YogaVibes.com is that they offer online yoga classes with amazing and accomplished teachers in a real class environment. They also have streaming DVD’s and shorter (free) intructional “vignettes” but it is being able to experience teachers whom I’ve admired from afar, like Sadie Nardini and Kathryn Budig (and Kino MacGregor, Ricky Tran, Rolf Gates – the list goes on and on), in a real yoga studio teaching a real class to a group of real people that I truly appreciate. It’s like, the real thing, y’all!

They have something for EVERYONE

YogaVibes.com acknowledges that people come to yoga practice for a variety of reasons and that these reasons are as unique as the individuals. There is a whole section for people brand new to yoga (Beginner Vibe). They have Kundalini Yoga classes, Vinyasa, Gentle, Yoga for Athletes and even Kids Yoga classes available on the site. YogaVibes.com offers support through videos and their blog, Community Vibe, as well as Daily Vibe emails. There is also a section on the YogaVibes site called Recovery Vibe, for those recovering from addiction, injury or illness and yoga classes for cancer survivors.

More YogaVibes.com features

Pricing for classes is extremely affordable and you have a few options. You can pay just $10 for a single class with access to that class for 14 days. Or you can pay $20 per month for up to 5 classes with unlimited use of those classes. Or for $25 per month you have unlimited access.

And …

Not only can you browse the site by Paid Videos, Free Vignettes, Streaming DVD’s, or New To Yoga but you can also search based on Style, Instructor, Location, Class Length, and Difficulty. It’s pretty darn cool and super easy to use.

I love YogaVibes and the service they are providing – yoga classes with amazing teachers that are economical and fit your schedule. I am sure you will love YogaVibes, too.

Woohoo! YogaVibes.com is offering my readers a 20% discount on YogaVibes classes. Use code lindsayvibes20 to receive the discount.

And because I just love a good blog giveaway (and free stuff!) …

3 Lindsay’s HOT SPOT readers will be able to try a YogaVibes class for FREE!

Here’s how to enter …

Mandatory:

  • -Visit YogaVibes.com and then leave a comment here sharing something that you liked about the site.

So, here it is. My first Facebook related giveaway. The last giveaway was such fun and I received a much better response than I expected (Really Lindsay? People like free stuff? That’s shocking). So, I’m back for more.

One of my other passions in life is music. Yep, I’m a big ol’ music and yoga dork. There was even a time in my life that I  referred to myself, affectionately I might add, as a band geek (this one time … at band camp … ). I still get all weepy over Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and my high school yearbooks. Good times.

Much like yoga, with music I don’t discriminate. I love music. Period. Sure, I have my preferences (just like putting the HOT in the yoga) but I find that there is a time and place for every kind of music and I can’t get enough of the stuff.

Now, put yoga and music together? Foooorgeettt abooouuuut it.

Here is a post I wrote about exactly this topic: Try Something Different: Music To Make Yoga To

Now, about the Facebook Giveaway.

I will be giving away 3 iTunes gift certificates in the amount of $10 each.

Here’s How to Enter:

1.) “Like” my Facebook Page Hot Yoga with Lindsay Fields

2.) Leave a comment on my Facebook Page about what kind of music you enjoy making yoga to … or exercising … or cleaning to. Basically, what music makes you want to move your body or sing out in pure in-the-moment delight? Thaaaat’s the stuff I’m talking about.

And that’s it. Giveaway will end on 8/16/2010 at 11:59PM. I will announce the 3 winners (randomly selected) on my Facebook Page on 8/17/2010. Valid email address is required as the gift certificates will be emailed to the winners.

I would also like to thank you for reading my blog and for any participation and support you offer, whether with these giveaways, with comments, or sharing my posts on your social networks. You make it, not only possible for me to do what I love, but you make it 100 times more enjoyable. Your support means the world to me.

I offer my most humble and sincere thanks to you (yes, that means you).

Lots of Love,

Lindsay

Why I Practice Hot Yoga & Barkan Method Hot Yoga DVD [GIVEAWAY] – CLOSED

UPDATE – Winner Announced Here.

Scroll down for the giveaway. But first, if you don’t mind …

These are some of my favorite words ever. I return to them often for comfort, for a sense of knowing. They are my reminder, my connection with my Self, my home.

Gabrielle Roth, author of Sweat Your Prayers, sums up so beautifully the practice I fell in love with many years ago.

“To sweat is to pray, to make an offering of your innermost self. Sweat is holy water, prayer beads, pearls of liquid that release your past. Sweat is an ancient and universal form of self healing, whether done in the gym, the sauna, or the sweat lodge. I do it on the dance floor. The more you dance, the more you sweat. The more you sweat, the more you pray. The more you pray, the closer you come to ecstasy.” -Gabrielle Roth

I do it on my yoga mat. The more I flow, the more I sweat.  I offer my practice and my sweat to something bigger than me, to liberation and transformation, giving myself (and the world which I am part of) the gift of movement and freedom.

And how appropriate that this is my very first Lindsay’s Hot Spot exclusive blog giveaway! Drum roll please …. I am giving away the Barkan Method of Hot Yoga DVD for home practice. This DVD is another way I stay connected … to my teacher.

My first class with Jimmy Barkan was in 1999 at his studio in Ft. Lauderdale. All I really remember of that class was the resounding YEEESSSS that spoke so loudly to me. Somehow, when you meet your teacher, you just know. So, when I returned to South Florida in 2009 for his 200 Hour Level 1 Hot Yoga Teacher Training, I felt as if I had come home (yes? yeeeessss!). And I am so glad to share this amazing teacher and lineage of Hot Yoga with all of you.

I realize that you may have some questions …

Who is Jimmy Barkan?barkan method hot yoga dvd

What is the Barkan Method?

What is Hot Yoga?

This DVD is awesome you guys. You can have a Hot Yoga practice at home or get your Hot Yoga fix while on the road.

There are two very special things about this DVD that I love and that make it extra-awesome:

    • 1. Tutorial Section: in addition to a full 60 minute Class Section, there is an additional Tutorial Section where you get detailed tips for every posture in the sequence. The really cool part? You can access the tutorial at any point during the class section.
    • 2. There are two people demonstrating: one more advanced and one showing modifications for every posture and for many different levels. So, really, ANYONE can do this!

Buy it on Amazon.com
