Yogi Surprise is Live!

Last week I posted about a new company called Yogi Surprise. Well, I am happy to to announce the official launch of YogiSurprise.com! Their site is live and contains everything you need to know. You can read about the company, how their subscription program works, and their inspirational blog, Yogi's Journal. Check it out now!

Yogi Suprise Box

Yogi Surprise is a monthly care package designed for yogis – like a retreat in box. They're offering 20% off for the first 500 members when you use code VIBRANT at yogisurprise.com

What is Yogi Surprise?

I'd like to introduce you to a new company called Yogi Surprise which I am personally really excited about! Members of Yogi Surprise will receive a monthly care package that is specifically designed with active yogis in mind. Their full site and services will be launching very soon!

yogi_suprise

The folks at Yogi Surpise describe their service to be "like a mini yoga retreat delivered to your doorstep." My first thought when I read this? Yes, please! As a full time yoga teacher and working mom, Yogi Surprise really appeals to me. I have learned over the years that self care and and high quality health and beauty products help me to be a better me.

I have susbcribed to similar sample boxes in the past but I always felt that they were missing something. What I like about Yogi Surprise is that it addresses that "missing something" for me by providing yoga, wellness, and fitness lifestyle products as their unique offering. I also appreciate that with Yogi Surprise you'll get 6-8 full size products, not trial size! The items range from unique yoga accessories and natural beauty items to herbal tonics, organic snacks, super food essentials and more. Like I said, I am super excited! Stay tuned for more info.

You can request an invite now and be automactically entered to win a LIFETIME membership to Yogi Surprise.

NamaSTAY Hot Yoga Towel Review

I am so excited to be writing my first Hot Yoga product review in, ahem, a very long time. But this towel rocks! I just had to share.

The NamaSTAY Non Slip Yoga Towel

I love when I find a product that fits seamlessly into my practice without becoming a distraction. I honestly would rather go without the accessories than have something that I have to continually adjust and fix and keep an eye on while I practice. This is why I think it is totally worth it to invest in quality yoga props, to find a few key pieces that work so well you don't even notice them while you're practicing but you can't imagine being without them ( i.e. clothing that doesn't ride or chafe, a mat that is the right size, a block that does it all). I would definitely put the NamaSTAY towel into this category of quality and usefulness.

The color options are terrific and varied and the texture of the towel is plush and soft. The microfiber material is absorbent and becomes even softer when wet. Also, like most yoga practice towels, the NamaSTAY towel grips even better when it is wet. This is especially helpful to know if you practice Hot Vinyasa styles, where you are at times moving between yoga poses at a faster pace. It also makes a difference in poses like Downward Facing Dog and arm balances, where you are using your hands on your mat to support some or all your body weight.

My lululemon "The Mat," which is slightly bigger than the average yoga mat, fits perfectly into the sleeves at either end of the Medium Size NamaSTAY towel (they have a handy sizing chart on their website to help you find the best fit for your mat). The name NamaSTAY is spot on as this towel truly stays in place and, if you're like me and you like to get your sweat on, you know how important and helpful this feature is. A good, absorbent towel that doesn't slide around is necessary for safety during Hot Yoga practice.

Try it Yourself

The wonderful folks at NamaSTAY Towels have set up a discount code for you, my dear readers. This code is good for 20% off a NamaSTAY Yoga Towel!

Simply enter case-sensitive code: LINDSAY when purchasing a towel at www.namastaytowel.com

If you are looking for a product that will support your yoga practice and not distract you from the goodness that comes with a sweet, sweaty flow, then I recommend you get a NamaSTAY yoga towel … or two! As you can see in the picture to the right, my NamaSTAY towel inspires me to kick up my feet and smile.

Keep it Sweaty,

Lindsay

I am So Feeling the Love

Thanks to all who participated in October's Yogavive Giveaway. Two winners have been selected and they are … Pat and Agata. I have notified the winners via email and they will be receiving their Yogavive Apple Chips Sample Pack very soon. Congrats!!

I really appreciate everyone's participation and as I promised I will be bringing a food donation to MANNA this week on your behalf.

November's Giveaway is a GOOD ONE.

Have you ever wished there was a more convenient (and attractive) way to travel to and from Hot Yoga class? Or am I the only one?

Most yoga mat bags don't have room for the extra hot yoga paraphernalia  – the towels, water bottles, change of clothes, etc.  It is for this reason that I usually have several bags with me when I go to class. I have one for my mat, one for my clothes and and an extra plastic bag for my used, sweaty yoga clothes. Then there's my purse and if it is cold out, my coat as well.

Introducing the ULTIMATE Hot Yoga Bag

Jessica over at Maine Girl Creations has designed a beautiful and functional bag for hot yogis everywhere. Check it out!

Product Description

"As my friend Terry calls it- The ULTIMATE Hot Yoga Bag. Do you practice Yoga in a heated room, maybe at a Bikram Studio or one of the many other fabulous heated studios out there? If the answer is YES, you need this bag.

The main fabric is Amy Butler Wall Flower accented with Amy Butler Lotus Full Moon Dot and a water proof/resistant PUL fabric in Pale Yellow. The finished size is 15 1/2"W x 10"L , 6 1/2"W x 10"L, the straps are 20"L perfect to wear on your shoulder, carry in your hand or drape over your arm! The Bottom of the bag is very sturdy lined with Peltex.

On the outside you will find a place to put your mat, how fabulous is that! A side pocket in the contrasting accent fabric for your phone and your keys. The inside of this bag is generously sized and lined with PUL fabric to put your sweat soaked towels and clothing in. The inside pocket is lined with the fabulous accent fabric, it is there to protect your dry goods from the wet, this pocket is generously sized as well."

Isn't it awesome?

Yummy Yogavive Chips Review and Giveaway CLOSED

Healthy snacking just got yoga-fied!

One of my favorite things about fall is, well, the food! So, how appropriate that this month's giveaway is a tasty one.

With pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice cookies and muffins making the rounds at offices and potlucks, it is easy to over-indulge. I find self discipline (brahmacharya) is important this time of year. I also like to find ways to set myself up to succeed in my seasonal eating habits. For example, I do not go food shopping when I'm hungry. I bring snacks and a bottle of water with me when I am out and about. I even go so far as to light a pumpkin spice candle to simulate yummy baking smells in my house.

yogavive popped apple chips

A New Take on Snack Foods

These Yogavive Organic Popped Apple Chips are a perfect part of a healthy lifestyle. Not only do I love their delicious flavor and satisfying crunch, I also love that the ingredient list is as simple as can be (call me crazy, but I am kind of a dork for that feature in my food). And here are some more things to love about Yogavive products:

  • No Added Sugar
  • No Preservatives
  • Gluten Free
  • USDA Certified Organic
  • AVA Certified Vegan

They Come is 5 Scrumptious Flavors

  • Original
  • Cinnamon
  • Caramel
  • Strawberry
  • Peach

Yogavive uses a two part drying process where the apples are first oven baked and then popped making them light and crispy and full of flavor. These popped apple chips are made from the highest quality USDA certified organic Fuji apples and come in two different size options. The 0.35 Ounce packages contain 1 whole apple while the 1.7 Ounce contains 5.

My favorite flavors are the Strawberry and the Original. My husband and my daughter both love the Peach. My son, well, he loves them all. Seriously, my kids can't get enough of these apple chips and since I can't find them in the local stores, I've already ordered more on Amazon.

Click here to locate a Yogavive retailer near you or head on over to Amazon.com to start shopping right away.

And Now for the FUN Part

Two lucky Lindsay's Hot Spot readers will receive a generous sampling of Yogavive Apple Chips in all 5 flavors and both sizes.

Aurorae Yoga Review and Giveaway CLOSED

My blog is 1 year old this month!

Yep, my baby is growing up (sniff). When I think back to a year ago and to how new all of this was to me, well, I am mostly blown away at how far I have come. I have learned A LOT about myself, my unique gifts, my voice as a writer and teacher as well as the supportive nature of social networking. My little site here has grown as well, from an incoherent collection of my musings and yoga posture tips to a clear vision, a creative outlet and a community resource for yogis and friends from all over the world.

Blogging has also connected me with many amazing individuals, teachers, fellow bloggers and some pretty rockin' yoga inspired companies. Most recently, I have had the good fortune of connecting with one of these awesome organizations, Aurorae Yoga.

aurorae yoga logo

Haven't heard of them?

Aurorae Yoga makes yoga practice aids including beautiful and eco-friendly yoga mats, mat bags, and a variety of yoga accessories. The company was founded by Dennis Ingui, a cancer survivor who came to yoga to help cultivate his physical body and a sense of inner peace for his mind. Like many people (myself included), Ingui found yoga practice to be so much more than even those two things. Aurorae Yoga resulted from a desire to support regular, everyday people in their yoga practice. I love this quote from their website, "It's Your Yoga. So don't be intimidated or uncomfortable. Relax, Enjoy and Namaste." Good stuff.

My Experience

First of all, I have to say that all of my interactions with the folks at Aurorae Yoga have been amazing. Every conversation I have had has been friendly and accommodating. Their communication is clear and they respond to emails promptly. I really appreciate that integrity.

The Products

I received the Ultra Thick Yoga Mat and the Slip Free Rosin Bag to test and review here on my blog.

aurorae products yoga matsThe Aurorae Yoga Mat is awesome and quite an upgrade from what I am used to. I was surprised to notice that the 1/4" thickness really makes a huge difference in my practice. This is especially evident in poses like Camel, Low Lunge and any pose where the knees are bearing weight. I have also noticed that I am more comfortable when laying on my stomach in Bow Pose and Full Locust Pose and Jump Backs to Chaturanga don't kill my toes. Basically, I am able to focus more on the poses because I feel really supported by the mat. That is a nice feeling.

I love the focal point icon at the front of the mat  (very helpful in Toe Stand!). Also, the colors are great. My mat color is Violet and it totally suits me. It is soothing on the eyes and inspires a sense of calm focus and clarity that is wonderful during a challenging vinyasa practice. All of the Aurorae Yoga Mat colors have an intentional focus, for example green facilitates renewal and intellect while pink is energetic and healing. Cool, huh?

Did I mention that the pricing on the Aurorae Yoga Mats is extremely affordable? Just another bonus.

aurorae yoga products slip freeThe Slip Free Rosin Bag is a new concept for me but after using it, it seems like a no-brainer. I don't know why I haven't heard of this sort of product being used for yoga practice before. It is absolutely perfect for a hot, sweaty vinyasa class when your hands have trouble staying put (in Downward Facing Dog for example). Towels also work for this purpose, of course, but this little bag sitting at the front of my mat has come in so very handy lately. Thanks Aurorae Yoga!
