Yogi Surprise Review – June 2015

Supporting Your Practice with the Yogi Surprise Lifestyle Box

This month's box from Yogi Surprise really rocked my practice! It contained 6 thoughtfully curated items for people who love to practice yoga (like me!). Here's what was inside the June 2015 box (links included):

Thanks, Yogi Surprise, for another awesome retreat-in-a-box!

Yogi Surprise – January Box Review

yogi surprise

Yogi Surprise is a monthly subscription box geared towards eco and health concious yoga lovers. Each box is packed with full size products to support your yoga practice and active lifestyle. It's like a mini retreat in a box! Along with an awesome sampling of fabulous products, Yogi Suprise gives away an actual reatreat to one of their members every month. For real. It's pretty awesome.

Restore & Rejuvenate

January's rejuvenating box was just a great as the previous boxes I've received. I have used every item and I love every single item. Here is what was inside:

Moon Valley Organics Rejuvenating Rub $11.99

The packaging is darling and the scent is divine. I have enjoyed and also shared this Rejuvenating Arnica Rub with my family – on my daughters strained ankle and my husbands aching shoulders after a long day of work. I love the combination of lavender and mint essential oils. It is relaxing and cooling. This is stuff is gold.

Next Organics Organic Dark Chocolate Cherries

Yum yum yummy! These are so good. Didn't last long enough!

Lotus Moon Hydro Therapy Eye Massage Treatment

My new favorite eye treatment! The roll-on applicator is cooling and the scent is one of my favorites ever, rose. I enjoy applying right before bed.

Sacred Wood Essence Palo Santo Incense Sticks

palo santo

I LOVE palo santo. So, I was delighted to see this when I opened my box! This sticks are the perfect size for easy lighting and they burn well. Their fragrance is strong, soothing, and grounding even without burning, too.

Betsy's Best Bar

I received the Dark Chocolate Chip flavor and while they are not super sweet, like say a cookie, I really like them. As far as natural, whole food protein bars go, Betsy's are great. They taste good and 1 was all I needed for a boost before teaching a hot yoga class (the package contained 2). Give them a try!

Essence of Vali Sleep Soothing Mist

I do love my smelly stuff. This soothing Sleep mist is just perfect. Lavender, cedarwood, marjoram leaves, and ylang ylang. Perfect throughout the day. Perfect on my pillow at night. LOVE it.

I just can't say it enough, I am never dissapointed with my boxes from Yogi Surprise and I am always looking forward to the next box. They also have a wonderful online community. Personally, I love their Instagram posts which are sweet and inspirational with tips for yogis.

Thanks, Yogi Suprise for another wonderful retreat in a box!

Yogi Surprise – December Box Review

Happy Holidays!

yogisurprisedecemberI don't know about you, but December has been a whirlwind of red and green for me. I recieved my Retreat in a Box on December 12th and it has taken me this long to write about it. Pretty soon we will be welcoming the new year (and another box from Yogi Surprise – yippee!).

The theme for December's box is "The Gift of Giving" and that is definitely my favorite thing about the holidays. I really love taking the time to consider and appreciate the people in my life in a bigger way. Most of my gifts are hand made and I do my best not to get caught up in the consumerism and the frenzy. With that in mind, I'll mention yet another thing I appreciate about Yogi Surprise. So far, their boxes do not contribute to clutter in my life. They are full size products rather than small samples that create excess waste. The packaging is minimal, reusable and/or recyclable. Best of all, the items I receive are really quite useful and I actually USE them. It is as if they went holiday shopping just for me. 🙂

The December Retreat in a Box has been a real gift! So, without further ado, here is the goodness that was inside:

  • Booda Butter by Booda Organics– This stuff is amazing! It is vegan, cruelty-free, and hand made in the USA. The ingredients in Booda Butter are simple, pure, and organic – just shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, and olive oil. It is good food for your skin and I absolutely love it! I highly recommend for dry skin and as a way to boost the overall health of your skin. My tin currently lives in my bathroom where I have easy access to it throughout the day. It smells delicious, too.
  • Essential Living Foods Chocolate Covered Cacao Nibs – In a word, scrumptious. Chocolate on chocolate in a pure, raw, ecologically grown form. Such a treat!
  • Urban Moonshine Energy Tonic – At first I thought this was something like an all-natural, herbal Red Bull but it actually much more than that. This energy tonic is meant to be taken daily to protect your body from the harmful effects of stress. It is a potent combination of beneficial herbs in an alcohol tincture (I'm assuming that is the reason for the moonshine moniker!). I recommend drinking this in a glass of water as it is quite bitter and strong on its own. I am a huge fan of medicinal herbs and highly recommend this Energy Tonic. Good stuff.
  • Indian Tiger Eye Mala Beads – Tiger's Eye has been my favorite stone ever since I visited a science museum in elementary school. So, as you can imagine, I was super stoked to receive this gorgeous mala. I have been wearing it when I chant for grounding and clarity. You can read about the healing properties of tiger's eye stone here
  • Angel Rejuvenation Spray Facial Mist & Aura Cleanser – I love this spray! It contains essential oils of frankincence, lavender, and geranium in a base of activated sacred healing water. It smells divine. I like to spray on my face as a moisturizer before I head out into the crisp, dry, winter air. It also works to elevate my mood and bring clarity and positivity to my mind.
  • Scout Organic Raw Pumpkin Seeds – Another delicious addition to this month's box. These pumpkin seeds are healthy, tasty and make the perfect snack in between yoga classes and at work. My kids love them, too!
  • Yogi Surprise Organic Cotton Yoga Strap – I am a dork for yoga props (I even work for a yoga prop company) so I was pretty geeked to receive this strap. In my opinion, you can't have too many yoga props laying around. This belt/strap is high quality and durable with metal loop fasteners which are my personal favorite because they don't break or loosen over time.

Thanks, as always, to Yogi Surprise for putting together such a perfect box for a yoga lover like me. I am looking forward to next month's box already. Here's to a Happy, Healthy New Year!

November's Giveaway is a GOOD ONE.

Have you ever wished there was a more convenient (and attractive) way to travel to and from Hot Yoga class? Or am I the only one?

Most yoga mat bags don't have room for the extra hot yoga paraphernalia  – the towels, water bottles, change of clothes, etc.  It is for this reason that I usually have several bags with me when I go to class. I have one for my mat, one for my clothes and and an extra plastic bag for my used, sweaty yoga clothes. Then there's my purse and if it is cold out, my coat as well.

Introducing the ULTIMATE Hot Yoga Bag

Jessica over at Maine Girl Creations has designed a beautiful and functional bag for hot yogis everywhere. Check it out!

Product Description

"As my friend Terry calls it- The ULTIMATE Hot Yoga Bag. Do you practice Yoga in a heated room, maybe at a Bikram Studio or one of the many other fabulous heated studios out there? If the answer is YES, you need this bag.

The main fabric is Amy Butler Wall Flower accented with Amy Butler Lotus Full Moon Dot and a water proof/resistant PUL fabric in Pale Yellow. The finished size is 15 1/2"W x 10"L , 6 1/2"W x 10"L, the straps are 20"L perfect to wear on your shoulder, carry in your hand or drape over your arm! The Bottom of the bag is very sturdy lined with Peltex.

On the outside you will find a place to put your mat, how fabulous is that! A side pocket in the contrasting accent fabric for your phone and your keys. The inside of this bag is generously sized and lined with PUL fabric to put your sweat soaked towels and clothing in. The inside pocket is lined with the fabulous accent fabric, it is there to protect your dry goods from the wet, this pocket is generously sized as well."

Isn't it awesome?

Yummy Yogavive Chips Review and Giveaway CLOSED

Healthy snacking just got yoga-fied!

One of my favorite things about fall is, well, the food! So, how appropriate that this month's giveaway is a tasty one.

With pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice cookies and muffins making the rounds at offices and potlucks, it is easy to over-indulge. I find self discipline (brahmacharya) is important this time of year. I also like to find ways to set myself up to succeed in my seasonal eating habits. For example, I do not go food shopping when I'm hungry. I bring snacks and a bottle of water with me when I am out and about. I even go so far as to light a pumpkin spice candle to simulate yummy baking smells in my house.

yogavive popped apple chips

A New Take on Snack Foods

These Yogavive Organic Popped Apple Chips are a perfect part of a healthy lifestyle. Not only do I love their delicious flavor and satisfying crunch, I also love that the ingredient list is as simple as can be (call me crazy, but I am kind of a dork for that feature in my food). And here are some more things to love about Yogavive products:

  • No Added Sugar
  • No Preservatives
  • Gluten Free
  • USDA Certified Organic
  • AVA Certified Vegan

They Come is 5 Scrumptious Flavors

  • Original
  • Cinnamon
  • Caramel
  • Strawberry
  • Peach

Yogavive uses a two part drying process where the apples are first oven baked and then popped making them light and crispy and full of flavor. These popped apple chips are made from the highest quality USDA certified organic Fuji apples and come in two different size options. The 0.35 Ounce packages contain 1 whole apple while the 1.7 Ounce contains 5.

My favorite flavors are the Strawberry and the Original. My husband and my daughter both love the Peach. My son, well, he loves them all. Seriously, my kids can't get enough of these apple chips and since I can't find them in the local stores, I've already ordered more on Amazon.

Click here to locate a Yogavive retailer near you or head on over to Amazon.com to start shopping right away.

And Now for the FUN Part

Two lucky Lindsay's Hot Spot readers will receive a generous sampling of Yogavive Apple Chips in all 5 flavors and both sizes.

Aurorae Yoga Review and Giveaway CLOSED

My blog is 1 year old this month!

Yep, my baby is growing up (sniff). When I think back to a year ago and to how new all of this was to me, well, I am mostly blown away at how far I have come. I have learned A LOT about myself, my unique gifts, my voice as a writer and teacher as well as the supportive nature of social networking. My little site here has grown as well, from an incoherent collection of my musings and yoga posture tips to a clear vision, a creative outlet and a community resource for yogis and friends from all over the world.

Blogging has also connected me with many amazing individuals, teachers, fellow bloggers and some pretty rockin' yoga inspired companies. Most recently, I have had the good fortune of connecting with one of these awesome organizations, Aurorae Yoga.

aurorae yoga logo

Haven't heard of them?

Aurorae Yoga makes yoga practice aids including beautiful and eco-friendly yoga mats, mat bags, and a variety of yoga accessories. The company was founded by Dennis Ingui, a cancer survivor who came to yoga to help cultivate his physical body and a sense of inner peace for his mind. Like many people (myself included), Ingui found yoga practice to be so much more than even those two things. Aurorae Yoga resulted from a desire to support regular, everyday people in their yoga practice. I love this quote from their website, "It's Your Yoga. So don't be intimidated or uncomfortable. Relax, Enjoy and Namaste." Good stuff.

My Experience

First of all, I have to say that all of my interactions with the folks at Aurorae Yoga have been amazing. Every conversation I have had has been friendly and accommodating. Their communication is clear and they respond to emails promptly. I really appreciate that integrity.

The Products

I received the Ultra Thick Yoga Mat and the Slip Free Rosin Bag to test and review here on my blog.

aurorae products yoga matsThe Aurorae Yoga Mat is awesome and quite an upgrade from what I am used to. I was surprised to notice that the 1/4" thickness really makes a huge difference in my practice. This is especially evident in poses like Camel, Low Lunge and any pose where the knees are bearing weight. I have also noticed that I am more comfortable when laying on my stomach in Bow Pose and Full Locust Pose and Jump Backs to Chaturanga don't kill my toes. Basically, I am able to focus more on the poses because I feel really supported by the mat. That is a nice feeling.

I love the focal point icon at the front of the mat  (very helpful in Toe Stand!). Also, the colors are great. My mat color is Violet and it totally suits me. It is soothing on the eyes and inspires a sense of calm focus and clarity that is wonderful during a challenging vinyasa practice. All of the Aurorae Yoga Mat colors have an intentional focus, for example green facilitates renewal and intellect while pink is energetic and healing. Cool, huh?

Did I mention that the pricing on the Aurorae Yoga Mats is extremely affordable? Just another bonus.

aurorae yoga products slip freeThe Slip Free Rosin Bag is a new concept for me but after using it, it seems like a no-brainer. I don't know why I haven't heard of this sort of product being used for yoga practice before. It is absolutely perfect for a hot, sweaty vinyasa class when your hands have trouble staying put (in Downward Facing Dog for example). Towels also work for this purpose, of course, but this little bag sitting at the front of my mat has come in so very handy lately. Thanks Aurorae Yoga!
